Seniors: Ages 60 years and older
Disabled: A documented disability
Children: At least one child 5 or under
All clients are eligible for services after the 16th pending available funds.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RECEIVES A PRESTIGIOUS HONOR
Tallahassee, Fla.~ Capital
Area Community Action Agency Executive Director, Tim Center, is honored to be
the recipient of City Year’s Hero of Service award. What’s more, Mr.
Center is the first to receive the honor.
The Hero of Service Award Reception,
sponsored by CSX, took place during Children's Week in Florida’s state capital,
Tallahassee. City Year Florida honors a public leader working for social
justice as well as expands awareness about the organization’s work to drive
student achievement in three of the most important urban hubs in our state.
City Year Miami, Orlando and Jacksonville came together to engage champions and
community leaders in a conversation about the broader scope of City Year
is not elected official and he's not the CEO of a large company or trade
association, but he is a leader. He leads without authority and in doing so he
makes a positive impact on his community. That is the definition of service”,
said Bob O’Malley with CSX and City Year. “He is a great role model for our
City Year Corps members during their year of service. Tim shows us that we all can make a
difference in the communities in which we live."

Florida Hero of Service Reception is to become an annual event in Tallahassee.
In attendance for this inaugural event, in Tallahassee were representatives from the Florida Department of
Education, the Department of Economic Opportunity, and the Agency for Workforce
Innovation, Volunteer Florida and elected officials of the Florida House and
“City Year’s mission is rooted in the
same idea with a similar mission to Capital Area Community Action Agency. Both organizations have a goal of helping
people and keeping them on track to have successful, meaningful lives”, says
Center, after winning his award. “This
is such an unexpected honor from an inspirational organization.”
addition to his work with the Community Action Agency, Center is also the
Executive Director of Sustainable Florida – the premier statewide organization
committed to ensuring a quality economic, environmental and social future for
Florida and its residents.
The Board of Directors meets every odd-numbered month on the fourth Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Tallahassee Community College’s Ghazvini for Health Care Education at 1528 Surgeon’s Drive, Tallahassee 32308. The meetings are open to the public.
Each meeting will focus on programmatic and fiscal updates from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAPP, Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), Family Self-Sufficiency Program funded by the Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) and Head Start programs.
